Originally trained in print journalism, I am a freelance writer, multimedia producer and internet designer. I launched SheepsheadBites.com, a community portal for the under-served Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. And as online manager for WSN INC., I reshaped the processes of eight leading trade publications to better inform readers using online tools and distribution methods. Additionally, my writing appeared in numerous papers within the Courier-Life community newspaper chain, the Bay Currents, the New York Press and the now-defunct New York Sports Express. Communications media never stops changing. From woodblock printing presses to dot-matrix printers, the telegraph to satellite radio, television to streaming video, and the fax/modem to the Internet -- a constant turmoil; industry-shattering, everlasting metamorphosis. And yet, the elements of storytelling remain static. While some reporters and established outlets have been slow to adopt the latest tools, true storytellers will look at every new technology as an opportunity, a potential means to reach a new audience or to speak to an old one in a new way. I believe today's reporter is best equipped by being well-versed in a wide variety of storytelling techniques, and by embracing new distribution models ahead of established media outlets.
